Then, I got pregnant with my 2nd. My older boy was going to be 27 months when the baby was born and he had ZERO interest in the potty. I knew I was going to have two in diapers for a while, so I looked into cloth diapering again. Again, I came across those expensive name brands, but somehow, I found something I hadn't found the original time researching. Kawaii brand diapers. I still didn't know much about cloth diapers, I was a total newbie to the cloth diapering world. I didn't know the difference between pockets, AIO's, pre-folds and covers, etc. Everyone kept telling me I should try out various brands to see what I liked, but I knew that would be nearly impossible, so I bit the bullet and bought our original stash of Kawaii ultrasoft cross over square tabbed diapers. With 2 in diapers, one being a newborn and the other a stubborn 27 month old (he was about 24 months at the time I ordered), I decided to buy 40 for our stash. This would give me plenty for 2 days for 2 boys.
I got the "boy" colors- dark blue, light blue, mint green and yellow. When I got them, I was pretty impressed, yet still knew nothing about what I had in my hand. Of course I looked up reviews and they had pretty good reviews from most that I read about. 40 diapers and 80 inserts is a LOT to start with, but it worked well for my 2 boys.
The diaper is a one size pocket diaper (as are many of their diapers). They are noted to fit 8-35lbs and I was able to put them on my baby as a newborn. It was a bit large and bulky, but it did indeed work for us. It also worked for my older boy who was probably about 27-29lbs at the time. This was my initial appeal of the one size diaper, and I thought the pocket was a good idea because it seemed that it would wash well and dry faster than other options, like an AIO. The outer material is made of a soft silky material and there is a layer of PUL inside, and a nice soft fleece lining. The snaps and elastic hold up really well.
After many months of usage, I got bored of the solid colors and looked into spending some money on some other options. I got a few of the mom label bamboo diapers, and a few of the "fun prints". I am a huge fan of the Mom Label (and blue label) bamboo diapers. The ones I got are minky on the outside and bamboo lining inside and the 2 inserts are bamboo and super absorbent. I also got a "silky" one with stars and they both worked really well for my boys and made them more fashionable wearing their diapers. The fun prints, I wasn't really thrilled about, as they do not have hip snaps, so we got "wing droopage", so they were my last resort to put on my boys. I also got 1 of the Good Night Heavy Wetter diapers, and I liked it. It is a nice thick material on the outside to help contain wetness. The inserts seemed to be about an inch longer than the standard inserts as well. They held up for us well.
As time went on, I started selling off my solid color stash of Kawaiis and getting into buying other options, especially once my older boy decided he would use the potty.
My initial stash of 40 diapers cost a mere $250. A great deal for that many diapers. There are in fact other less expensive options that I have found after the Kawaii Diapers, and I will discuss that in other posts (see Sunbaby, once it is written).
All in all, I would definitely recommend Kawaii as a starter diaper for those on a fairly tight budget. Comparable to the more expensive brands as well.
